DTP Open Day 2018 28th November

20Nov

The Open Day this year will be held at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  There will be a poster session in the morning where prospective applicants can meet supervisors who are interested in attracting a PhD student to their groups.  There will be a sandwich lunch provided, and in the afternoon a series of short talks covering different aspects of the programme.  There will also be the opportunity to meet current students, and the DTP admin team who can answer any of your questions around the application process.

The DTP has been awarded 16 fully-funded studentships by NERC (The Natural Environment Research Council) in 2019 which are open to UK and EU students.  With additional funding we hope to increase the  number of students admitted to 24.  Candidates can apply either to a specific CASE or collaborative project involving one of external partners, or to a broad research stream, where they will have the freedom to develop their own project.  They will begin their degree by undertaking hands-on training in quantitative skills, research methods, topical training on the earth system, and professional skills training in enterprise and innovation, project development and management and science communication.  They will also carry out interdisciplinary group projects.
