Research Interests

Past environments were never in equilibrium and we can only properly understand them, or humans interactions with them, if we have good chronological control.  The DPhil student would be part of a group working on a range of chronological, environmental and archaeological problems.  The student may choose to focus on processes of environmental change, for example whether rapid change is synchronous across regions or subject to local thresholds, or they may choose to look at how humans have adapted to and responded to the environment through archaeological research.  The group has extensive infrastructure for the study of chronology, both through dating methods, databases, and numerical modelling methods.

Associated Research Streams

environmental change, palaeoclimate records, global synchronism, modelling, chronology, archaeology
