Multitrophic interactions between plant hosts, herbivorous insects, their parasitoids, hyperparasitoids and endosymbionts are still relatively poorly understood. This is especially true in tropical “biodiversity hotspots”. My research group is currently investigating several systems, in the UK as well as in selected localities in both tropical forests (Borneo) and arid environments (Oman, Qatar). We aim to describe parasitoid diversity in these environments, with the longer-term goal of quantifying functional groups and connecting their function and diversity to ecosystem service provision, and habitat conservation.
