Research Interests

Research in my group has focussed on understanding the process of species discovery. We are interested in accelerating the pace of how biodiversity is revised and new species described. We are writing a global monograph of Ipomoea (http://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/news/news_item.cfm/newsid/6/newsid/161). This research covers the taxonomy of all species, the phylogeny of the group and we intend to cover in greater detail – using Next Generation Sequencing  – the Wild Crop Relatives of Ipomoea batatas (sweet potato) in Central and South America. In addition, I am interested in how morphological data is correlated with phylogenetic trees and are investigating this in relation to measures of Phylogenetic Diversity and character compatability.
