Grand Challenges Seminars 2024

Each year students from all programmes of the MPLS Doctoral Training Centre, deliver a series of seminars addressing some of the critical questions of our time. We welcome attendees from across and beyond the university to attend the seminars and join the panels and organisers for a drinks reception afterwards.  The programme for 2024 is:

Week 1 - 25th April – Conservation and Farming – can they coexist
Week 2 – 2nd May – How Global is Global?  Does Global research really represent the whole world?
Week  3 -9th May – Climate Injustice: Creating Compassionate, Equitable, and Actionable Solutions to the Climate Crisis
Week 4 – Hiatus
Week 5 – 23rd May – The AI Language Model – its use and abuse in scientific writing
Week 6 -30th May – Fake News: how do we overcome the spread of science misinformation?
Week 7 - 6th June – Critical Metals and Ethical Mining
Week 8 - 13th June – Scientists knock, will policy answer?
