Projects

We have many DTP supervisors with project ideas that they will be happy to discuss with applicants. We have clustered supervisors into three research streams for convenience. You can search the supervisor list by key word to find out more about the breadth of the topics on offer. We also advertise  CASE projects which involve close collaboration with an external partner, include additional funding, and give an opportunity to spend time working in a setting outside Oxford

If you're interested in applying, the first step is to e-mail one or more potential supervisors and talk about what research you might be interested in pursuing.  The projects listed on the projects page are some available ideas, but they are not the only projects available.  You're encouraged to develop your own project, or supervisors may have other ideas for you, and you don't have to have a finalized project plan even when you start.  You'll develop your research plan as you get started, over the first six months of your PhD.

CASE projects are where a partner agrees to contribute a minimum of £1000 per year towards the costs of the project and to host the student for a period of time between 3 and 18 months during the course of the project.  These are highly valued by NERC and we have a quota of 25% per year of CASE projects.

To see some examples of projects within a particular stream, please select that stream from the drop-down menu "streams"  below.  If you wish to narrow your search, you can choose a key theme within that stream by using the drop down menu for that stream.
