Grand Challenges Seminars 2025

Each year students from all programmes of the MPLS Doctoral Training Centre, deliver a series of seminars addressing some of the critical questions of our time. We welcome attendees from across and beyond the university to attend the seminars and join the panels and organisers for a drinks reception afterwards.  The programme for 2025 is:

Week 1 – 8th May – Tightening the Green Belt? Labour, Housing and Biodiversity
Week 2 – 14th May – Merging Mind and Machine: The science and ethics of brain-computer interfaces  
Week 3 – 22nd May – What makes effective conservation? Overcoming barriers to conservation success in the 21st century
Week 4 – 29th May – Ethical and Environmental Issues within AI research (and industry)
Week 5 – 3rd June – Challenging Honesty in Net Zero Claims  
Week 6 – 12th June – De-colonising Environmental Research: Rethinking Knowledge and Power
Week 7 – 19th June – The Future of Environmental Research - who has the power?
