Andrew Kirby

Academic Profile

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 developing a keen interest in fluid mechanics and numerical modelling. For my Master's research project I worked with British Cycling to analyse the data recorded Olympic track cyclists in order to quantify the athletes' physiologies. I am very interested in the theory and modelling of environmental flows, as well as the application to wind energy generation and weather prediction.

Current Research

My D. Phil research project will work with the Met Office to investigate the modelling of large wind farms and the prediction of wind resource availability. The research will also look into the flow over complex terrains and how best to represent this effect within weather and climate models.
