Sophy Oliver

Academic Profile

I studied Oceanography for four years at the University of Southampton, spent two years as an Oceanographer for a Consultancy company, and am now on the DTP program for Environmental Research. My main interests are anything to do with the oceans and the associated feedbacks with the climate, especially in the context of climate change.

Current Research

For my DPhil project I'll be working to improve the parameterisation of the ocean biogeochemical model called MEDUSA, using recently developed mathematical optimisation techniques. MEDUSA is part of the next generation Met Office/NERC Earth System model (UKESM1) currently under development by the Met Office, which will act to predict global climate change caused by rising atmospheric carbon dioxide.
