Research Interests

The principal focus of Earth Observation Data Group is the retrieval of atmospheric properties (e.g. temperature, pressure, trace gas concentrations, aerosol and cloud properties) from data gathered by Earth Observing satellites. We use these data to address problems as diverse as: climate induced changes in cloud properties, interaction of aerosol and cloud, volcanic emissions of ash and trace gases (SO2). Our work uses radiative transfer to solve inverse problems. Techniques include AI algorithms as well as optimal estimate solutions. Emphasis is given on including a quantification of the uncertainty in the atmospheric property of interest.
